June Miles

Draws inspiration from the visual world, using flowers or landscape as a starting point for her paintings. The interplay of objects, and the patterned cloths on which they stand, form the vital structure of her paintings. Colour is used to define spatial relationships. She likes the reaction of warm and cool colours in a composition.

In a still life she contrasts hard and soft shapes, using the fragility of flowers against the hardness of pottery or glass. June Miles was born in Dulwich, London. She studied at the Slade and Bristol. She moved to St Just in 1978, with her husband, the sculptor, Paul Mount.
