Laurence Belbin

Laurence was born in Hampshire in 1958. He moved to Sherborne, Dorset in 1986 where he has been painting full time since 1989. A painter in oils and mainly self-taught through his own observations he did however receive some tuition and guidance from the late Matt Bruce R.I. Laurence is a committed 'plein-air' painter, working all year round and producing most of his work outdoors on location. He considers himself a painter primarily concerned with light and atmosphere, often striving to achieve the effect of sunlight on water and the way in which reflections bounce and dance off figures in the sea, or the way in which light penetrates a wind break on the beach or a cloud in a summer sky. He is also known for his stunning Venetian paintings. His work has been shown at the Curzon Gallery and at the Mall Galleries in London
