Gary Long

Born in Birmingham in 1945 Gary attended Birmingham College of Art in 1962-5. In 1966-8 he travelled to Vancouver and Toronto where he worked as an illustrator. Returning to the UK in the early 70's he gained a Fellowship A.D.F. at Manchester College of Art and freelanced as an illustrator through London and New York agents, working for many major national and international companies and publishers. In 1993 Gary became a part time lecturer at Falmouth College of Art, specialising in figure drawing. In 1998 he became an elected artist member of the society of illustrators in New York and in 2002 was commissioned to produce 6 paintings for the Queen Mary II. In 2005 he was invited to paint in Vermont USA at Slate Valley Museum, Southern Vermont Art Center, and The Granite Museum Barre. He has shown widely in prestigious galleries in the UK, US, and Australia, and featured in the BBC's 'Countryfile' programme in 2007.
