Robert Pittam

Robert studied illustration at Swindon College and at Kingston-on-Thames School of Art. Despite developing a successful career in London as a commercial artist he was increasingly drawn towards Cornwall and the Sea. He eventually left London in 2005 to settle in Cornwall and paint full-time. Since doing so he has fast developed a distinctive style in which the very diverse influences of his favourite painters Vermeer and Edward Hopper can be clearly seen. His still lifes have a dark intensity and richness in the Dutch tradition and yet his landscapes and figures draw upon the surreal and polished style of Hopper. Despite his relatively new career as a full time painter, Robert's reputation for work of a very high quality has deservedly grown.
