Stephen Henderson

From boat-building to bespoke furniture Stephen has always worked with wood. It is a material whose organic nature and endless possibilities fascinate and motivate him. Indeed it was whilst running his successful furniture business that he met and became friends with the international acclaimed sculptor Guy Taplin. This meeting of minds re-ignited a desire in Stephen to start carving again, something that he had done previously but he had put to one side due to the time demands of a growing business. Stephen's sculptures capture the essence of the animal they depict - the elegance of a snipe or curlew, the power of pike hunting, or the gentle bonhomie of the blue whale as it glides through the ocean. All are rendered with great skill, knowledge and affection for the subject. Stephen's reputation is building year on year and he has many major exhibitions and media coverage including a documentary about his work in Japan.
